About The Restaurant
Founded in the 1950s, one of the best parts about this spot is the history of Skinny’s Place. A Midwestern couple visited the island on their honeymoon and vowed to come back one day. When they did, they created the restaurant you see today. They opened the little beach place then called Mid-Island Drive-In. Photos of Carl (Skinny) Freeman and his wife Janice can still be seen in today’s location. The history here is undeniable as soon as you walk through the doors.
Of course, it’s the fantastic food that really has people coming back time and time again. Choose from plenty of different sandwiches on the menu, which are all sure to hit the spot. You’ll find everything from a variety of different style hamburgers, to chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, and more. Don’t leave without a side of grandma’s homemade chili and some fries or onion rings.
Skinny’s is located right near our Anna Maria Island resorts on Gulf Drive in Holmes Beach. This fun little spot is open every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
How Do I Walk There?
The other reason Skinny’s is such a good option for some food is because of how close it is to the Anna Maria Beach Resort. So close in fact, that you can walk there in just a couple of short minutes. Start by heading east on 39th Street toward Gulf Drive, then you can turn left onto Gulf Drive. Skinny’s will be on your right. The short walk is flat and easy and you won’t be able to miss this unique restaurant.
Other Ways of Getting Around
If you’re not interested in walking around on your vacation, there are plenty of other options. One way people can move around the island is by golf cart. There are several places you can rent a cart from for your vacation stay. Gulf Coast Carts, Beach Bums Recreational Rentals, and Robinhood Rentals are just a few that come to mind. On Anna Maria Island, golf carts are street legal on any street where the speed is 35 mph or less. This covers just about the entire island and can be a fun and unique way to get around.
Another option to get around is by bike. Not only is it easy and fun to navigate the streets of Anna Maria Island by bike, but also there are also several recreation bike trails to explore. Some of the best areas include the Coquina Bike Path and Lake Manatee State Park. Find bike rentals at several spots including Fun and More Rentals and AMI Beach Fun Rentals.
Finally, take the trolley to explore all Anna Maria Island has to offer. This is a great option if you don’t need transportation for the entire time you’re on Anna Maria Island. The trolley is totally free and has 14 stops all across the island. Begin at the Anna Maria Island City Pier and take it all the way to Coquina Beach. You can hop on and off as many times as you’d like.
